What the iPad means for MMOs
Thursday, January 28th, 2010
Yesterday there was a whole lot of excitement across the internet about Apple’s announcement of the iPad. That excitement changed to disappointment in some people as they felt like they weren’t getting “the next big thing.” In fact a common trend is that the iPad is just a large iPhone. I’m not here to debate that point however. I am here to discuss how amazing a “large iPhone” just may be for the MMO market. I’ve spent a lot of time talking about how I think MMOs should break into the iPhone market and a larger, more powerful device makes me even more sure that this is the right direction! (more…)
Epic Pet War Primer
Friday, January 8th, 2010
It has come to my attention lately that I talk about Epic Pet Wars quite a bit here. I do so because I really enjoy the game and probably play it more than anything else right now simply because it is right there on my iPhone. Ever so often I like to write “how to” guides for dungeons and the like so I thought it would be fun to do a primer on EPW. That way others can take what I’ve learned and have quite a bit more success when they first pick up the game. As always, if you decide to try it out you can friend me with the code kremolb and use the redeem code payssjeu. (more…)
Smart-Phone MMOs
Monday, December 28th, 2009
If there is one truth when it comes to gaming it is that our cell phones are becoming a bigger part of it every day. Casual games are finding their way into the hands of what we would previously consider non-traditional gamers and times really are changing. Historically I’ve hated the notion of cell phones. They allow people to be insistent and demanding. At all times they expect to be able to reach you. Despite that clear flaw I’ve been strapped to my iPhone the moment I got it. I don’t take it with me, it takes me with it. In the past I’ve written about what MMOs could do with a mobile application and I want to explore that further. What could be done? What should be done? Casual games worth playing
Friday, December 18th, 2009
Every once in a while I have to check in with my iPhone and talk about the wonders that I’ve discovered there. Sometimes I’ll find something new and exciting but generally I just stick to the same games that continue to prove to be an addiction for me. I’ve talked about it in the past but as far as iPhone MMOs go Epic Pet Wars is probably the best. I am still playing this game and my shark pet is up to level 129. Why I bring this up now is because Miraphonic, the makers of EPW, has been doing a fantastic job of extending their content. Not long ago the game sort of petered out around 80. That is no longer the case as every few levels I find new gear and new trinkets to play with. Simplicity continues to be addicting. (more…)
Epic Pet Wars hits 1.5
Thursday, October 1st, 2009
Previously on Epic Slant Ferrel and his side kick Fippy were captured by the addictiveness of iPhone MMOs. Though they struggled to defeat the urge to pay for titles that were by all accounts simple the Freemium Overlord ™ defeated our intrepid heroes and forced them to open their wallets. Only then did they learn the true power of the mobile MMO and that homage must be paid to the king of them: Epic Pet Wars.
I’ve always wanted to write the intro to the second episode of an Adam West Batman show so please (more…)
Making sense of Twitter
Thursday, August 13th, 2009Epic Slant has had a twitter feed for a while now and I’ve done my best to keep it to nothing more than updates. I’ve made it a policy not to send my followers any tweets other than when a new article comes out or when it directly adds to the conversation we’re having regarding those articles. At the same time I’ve been using Epic Slant to follow people I really want to read and that list grows daily. It pains me when I want to reply and can’t really do so!
With the speed at which our community tweets I’ve been having a hard time managing. Today I went out and grabbed (more…)
