Absolutely had to share this!

EQ2 DollI’ve finally got my head above water on my project and returned to my blog reader. It feels like it has been so long and as a result I have a whole lot to catch up on. I came across something so interesting on Elder Game that I just had to share. Basically Eric talks about what a woefully bad year 2009 was for MMOs and why. As of late I’ve been throwing a lot of blame for these failures on poor management decisions and the nature of the business. He seems to suggest a bit of the same. (more…)

Champions Online Review

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Guild Leader ThaneIt wasn’t that long ago when I wrote up my early impressions on Champions Online. They were based on the open beta and I was very optimistic about the title. To ensure I had an appropriate amount of time to play the release version of the game, I’ve held off doing an actual review for awhile. Given the time under my belt and the fact that reviews tend to fall early on a products release cycle, it seems that now would be appropriate to do a write up on Cryptic’s Champions Online.

Aldest ThaneAre you the type of hero that imposes their will upon the villains of the world? Do you enjoy getting up close and personal to smite evil? Does the idea of Ego powered energy excite you? Early in the beta, I saw Telekinesis in action and just knew it was what I wanted to play. Many of the powers look like “energy” weapons and fit in nicely with my plan of having a large wolf character from space that can manipulate the ethereal. The Id Blades just look impressive and (more…)

Champions Online Open Beta Thoughts

Ferrel the AngelWhen I was away to deal with my family’s business I had the thought to take a laptop with me. For some reason I’ve always found it calming to play an MMO and chat with my guild mates. I have to thank Cryptic for providing me some entertainment while I tried to not think about funerals and burials. During my time in Ohio I probably spent about eight hours playing the Champions Online open beta (this doesn’t count character creation) and thought I’d write up my opinions. I do want to stress that this is not a review and is based only off beta. I will provide a review at release.

One of the aspects of Champions that I was looking forward to was the character creator. I had heard all sorts of positive feedback and just had to get my hands on it. City of Heroes had somewhat prepared me for a truly in depth character generator but this went above and beyond. For an hour I (more…)
