It is hard to believe that I will have been back in EverQuest II for a year in a matter of weeks. When we returned we had very small goals and whole lot of hope. I think it is fair to say that a lot of guilds that started out with less than ten people would not be able to achieve raid success. Being so small also puts you into an incredibly difficult recruitment posture. You have virtually nothing to offer prospective recruits. There are perils at every turn and one wrong step could destroy you. Iniquity has not perished. In fact we have flourished in the face of adversity and I am so proud to talk about that. Since Fan Faire 2010 there has been a lot of buzz regarding SOE’s EverQuest Next. Everyone wants to speculate on what the game may be and how it is going to change the MMORPG market. I have high hopes for the title and was quite thrilled to see the method by which SOE handled it during the faire. The panels devoted to it were not as much information sharing as they were information gathering. SOE was interested in knowing what we wanted out of our next EverQuest title. This posture was a nice change of pace and shows a real commitment to the next generation of MMORPGs.
One of the bonuses of being at Fan Faire is that you get to talk to developers! Calthine of Zam ensured that Karen and I would have a chance to do so! She found Paul “Frizznik” Carrico and brought him right over! Frizznik is the EQ2 Lead Mechanics Designer at SOE and a pretty awesome guy to talk to. He was quite honest, not afraid to share and really listened. His sincerity and care about the game was quite clear.
