I know I seem to jump from build to build when it comes to PVPing as a Warrior, but bear with me! Before I go into details, you should know two things about this new build I’m running. It will never come close to doing enough damage to be a DPS build and it will never have enough survivability to effectively play without a supporting healer. However, I find it to be annoying for my opponents and often feel like a little fairy that won’t leave people alone.
I put the build together (though I’m sure I’m not the first to play it by any stretch) when I was looking at the Riftblade’s Planar Blade ability. I noticed that along with refreshing Riftwalk, it also refreshed the Void Knight’s Rift Summon ability. I thought to myself, “That’s silly, who would pair Riftblade and Void Knight and go that far into both? There’s no way it could be effective at anything! I’ll make a build just to prove it!” And so I did. I went very quickly from thinking “I’ll prove Trion wrong” to “Wow, this is great!” in my first warfront with the build. It helped that the warfront was Codex and there were plenty of mages and healers hiding up on the ledges. With speed and ease, crit after crit, I yanked them all down for my team to destroy.
The build is pretty flexible since the goal is straightforward and I am not trying to maximize DPS or survivability. The third soul is entirely up to you and how you prefer to play. The only thing necessary for the build to work is 26 points in Riftblade, grabbing Riftwalk and Planar Blade, and 21 points in Void Knight to get Rift Summon. I like to add the Champion soul to get Grim Satisfaction, Battlefield Intimidation, and Lingering Wounds. Paragon would also work nicely since it has some nice crit-related abilities, too. One thing I strive for in a build is to not be tied to two-handers or dual-wielding because I go back and forth all the time on what weapons I want to use. Depending on how you put this build together, it could depend on two-handers, dual-wielding, or be flexible to work with both.
If you’re not ready to play around with it to decide what you like, I’ll start you off with my version of the Warrior Navi! I pair it with Champion because I like the abilities that soul brings to the table even though I avoid the two-handed-specific abilities. You can check out ZAM’s Rift Soul Tree Calculator to see exactly where I spent my points.
27 Riftblade: I don’t really know much about Riftblades and how useful their abilities are, but since my goal isn’t to do a lot of DPS, I don’t really care. My goal is to do any amount of damage that might score a crit to refresh my key abilities, so I tossed a scattering of points in Burning Blood, Static Shock, and Elemental Touch. I don’t know if all of these abilities are capable of critting, so if anyone knows that they don’t, please leave a comment so I can spend those points in other places! I also know I definitely want to max Unrelenting to get my ranged abilities back faster. Rift Surge is also just plain awesome to me.
21 Void Knight: This soul is a little weaker to me. Very few of the abilities actively spark my interest. I do use the mana-draining abilities for separate “anti-blue” macros when facing mage or cleric opponents, and of course Rift Summon is a golden treasure. Spell Sunder is also crucial against certain builds and I can’t live without it!
18 Champion: Here I am very picky about where my points go. Because I want to switch between a two-hander and dual-wielding depending on my mood I avoid Deadly Strikes. Grim Satisfcation is a must, I love Thunderous Kick and Battlefield Intimidation for crowd control, but my favorite ability I get from the Champion soul is Lingering Wounds. Healing debuff is just awesome, and since it works on crits and this build hinges on critting, how could I not spend the points for it?
All in all I love this build. I keep trying other ones but even if I am capable of destroying with a giant two-hander or surviving blow after blow effortlessly, I just don’t get the same satisfying rush as I do from annoying the other side. When Ferrel is there to keep me alive, I can enjoy a good game of “Hey! Hey! Come here! And you come here! Hey! Come back here! Hey!” with constant summons and teleports and that is what I seem to enjoy most in PvP.
