Comfortable in Rift

Ferrel from RiftIt struck me as funny the other day when I realized how little writing I’ve done for Epic Slant this month. I often joke that there are two times when that happens: when I’m traveling and when I’m happy. I’m not traveling so that only leaves happiness. Epic Slant was born out of a need to air my grievances (and occasionally educate about guild leadership). I don’t have a whole lot of issues these days and that can make it awfully hard to write. It also doesn’t help that I’m pouring my creative energy into a different, longer term project.

When Iniquity left EverQuest II (the first time) I wasn’t sure I’d ever feel comfortable again. Things made sense back then. Every raid night I had more bodies than slots. Monsters died on schedule and we progressed from start to finish before any new expansion released. It wasn’t easy to go from being the big cheese to little more than Cheeto dust. We played through some awful MMORPGs over the years. There were so many that were half complete or lacking in some way. We fought the battle rebuild and get (almost) enough bodies to raid only to slowly bleed out because of how awful the game was. It was rough for years and it put plenty of fuel on my creative fire. Now I’ve found a game that works for Iniquity and it is turning me into a comfortable person! That is quite scary.

I’m certain if I looked on the official Rift forums there would be a laundry list of complaints (that is why I don’t look). I don’t have anything negative to say. The game isn’t perfect but compared to everything between it and EverQuest II it is amazing. The polish and quality have really caused it to shine and it has allowed me to go from leading an “on the run” guild to an extremely fun, well oiled, and successful organization. We’re doing well there and it is nice. We fill our raids, we drop targets, and we make long term plans for progression. That doesn’t make a lot of room for me to complain. It is like the old days but without all the pressure.

At any rate I just felt like it would be a nice change of pace to share some positivity and dote on my guild. We’re about one raid night shy of adding Prince Hylas to farm status. We’ve got all of River of Souls and Hammerknell to look forward to. We even have a new ten man to conqueror. I’m excited, so please forgive me if I’m a little slow on the written updates. I did want to make a few announcements regarding Epic Slant Press.

We are still looking for comments for the Multiverse and the Multiverse Guildcast. Please email, call, or text your questions, comments and/or concerns. Our number is 336-505-9501. It can be guild related or just fun! We really just want you to participate.

Clerics Wear Plate seems to be about dead in the water in the current form (what am I going to do with 1100 wrist bands)! I’m looking to come up with something to make it fun or useful. Right now I’m leaning towards Epic Slant mirror or just forwarding the domain here. If anyone has ideas please let me know!

Iniquity is also doing some very limited recruiting. I’m looking for one or two people who can make Tuesday and Thursday raids at 8 PM eastern. Any class. We recruit people, not roles. If you’re interested why not drop by Byriel. Talk to Ferrel, Dresdin, Hanibal, or Buuncha. Let them know you saw this post and wanted to try us out. We don’t have a process. You join, see if you fit in, and choose to stay or leave. Totally up to you.

  1. Is this the part of the movie where something horrible happens because there’s no Ferrel anger to rant against it, prompting a Rocky-style training montage as you get your Slant back up to Epic levels for the big showdown?

  2. Lyranthe says:

Lol, when I saw that I got the picture of furry Ferrel doing the run up the stairs from rocky, with eye of the tiger in playing in the background.
