Demitriks Bastion Sentinels Fate

EverQuest II Sentinels FateOn day two of my EQ2 Sentinel’s Fate experience I was pleased to find out that the servers were stable, nobody was crashing and everyone seemed happy. I logged on as soon as I could and found some guild mates to get into trouble with. We formed up and decided we would give Demitrik’s Bastion a shot and I want to say I’m glad we did. I’m not sure who designed this zone but they need a raise. All design elements aside, it is just a funny place. The choice of roekillik as a primary mob was a delight and the use of them throughout only got better and better. Spoiler after the jump!

When you first zone into Demitrik’s Bastion you’ll find a few roekillik standing on the primary platform. Kill them off and move down the climbing wall in the center. Once you reach the bottom level start working immediately to your right. Clear around the left side (if you’re facing it) of the big platform and then look into the corner in the back left. You’ll find the key mob there. He is a bit of ooze and was non-aggro.

In the first area your goal is to kill the phantoms and phantom watchers. Failure to do so will result in all of them attacking you when you attempt the first named. The watchers are all standing on the various squares that surround obelisks while the phantoms fly overhead. Each encounter is a pair of the two that are linked together. Pull the watcher and you’ll get the phantom. Maneuver all over the first area until each one is done. Your Super Mario Brothers jumping skills will be tested! Once you’ve slain all of the phantoms you can then engage the first encounter.

The first encounter is made up of one really ugly spectral protector and two little roekilliks. The roekilliks are invulnerable as long as the protector lives. Kill the protector at a usual pace but be ready for a race. Once the phantom is down you have to kill the accompanying rats as fast as possible because each one is attempting to summon a new protector. If you fail to kill them they will BOTH summon a protector and be healed 50%. You can survive if this happens, though. The protector is not that difficult. Just do your best to kill at least one of the two rats immediately. When the first encounter dies a portal will open at the top of one of the obelisks. This obelisk is near where the key mob is and has a climbing wall. Go to the top and click the blue portal.

You’re now on the other side of the zone. You’ll notice flying globs of ooze and roekillik geomancers. By killing geomancers you will despawn local oozes. Work your way through the area and kill them all off. As you do so you can see a roekillik flying around on a black pegasus named Schteek Tavinos. He is adorable! You may also find Shroombis the Coerced and Coercer Pittles. Pittles rides Shroombis and is also adorable. Clear the trash and then head to the lower tier where the pegasus is flying around.

Schteek Tavinos Demitriks BastionThe Schteek Tavinos encounter is not overly difficult if you have your wits about you. First and foremost I need to say that if you are a priest, mage or ranger you need to be at a distance. This mob has a pretty rough knockback with a solid damage component. He also sports an AoE curse that will reduce incoming heals to everyone around the person who has it. Stack that on enough people and you’re in trouble. Beyond that the fight is very standard. He doesn’t hit overly hard and the damage is very manageable. Just keep your melees healed and your tank alive and you’ll be fine.

Before engaging Coercer Pittles you’ll want to work your way around the outside of his temple to where it is split in half. There is a ravine there that contains two taskmasters and a bunch of toilers. Kill them and take their rusty wrenches. Do not let the same person get more than one! As of 18 February 2010 doing so will hurt your chances of defeating Demitrik later. One wrench per person!

Shroombis Demitriks BastionOnce these mobs are dead (or before) you can head over to Coercer Pittles and Shroombis. While Pittles rides on the back of his giant mushroom he is invulnerable. Engage Shroombis and you’ll have a very standard fight. He can occasionally throw a big hit but there isn’t much in the way of surprises here. Just tank and heal but be ready for some excitement right before he dies. When Shroombis falls Pittles will jump off his back and engage you. Part of this engagement involves the roekillik putting a curse on someone. This is a charm. Depending on who is charmed you need to cure it immediately. Beyond that Pittles doesn’t stand up to much punishment so as long as you’re fast on the cures you can take him down.

Demitriks Bastion Pettles and Shroombis

With the defeat of the dynamic duo a grate will open back where you first arrived in the second area. Behind this door is a very large and very angry golem. Nayt the Grate Keeper does not and will not move from his position. Do not engage him in melee! He rampages and flurries for insane amounts of damage. Your tank will likely die to the melee rather quickly. Simply start ranged DPS and keep an eye on his messages. He will tell you he is going to put you in harms way and teleport one person into his room. When this happens run straight up the ramp and get as close to the ledge of the temple as possible. Everyone else needs to run off to the sides and have at least two meters between them and the line of the ramp. A giant rock will then fall from the ceiling and roll down the ramp. If you’re near it you will die. There is no damage value, we’re talking instant death here! If the rock doesn’t hit anyone it will hit Nayt the Grate Keeper and he will take a substantial amount of damage, immediately throw a fit, and pull someone in for a repeat performance. Do this until he gets very low. At that point Nayt will say that his own rocks can’t kill him and you have to finish the job.

Nayt Demitriks BastionWhen Nayt is defeated the wall will open behind him and reveal another teleporter. Use it and you’ll be transported up to the top of Pittles’ temple. Move up and kill two more groups of taskmasters and toilers. This will yield two more wrenches. You’ll also notice that the left crystal is a housing item that can be picked up. From the front of the temple there is a bridge that extends out to Demitrik himself and a machine. Go down there and disable the machine. This will make Demitrik live and he will engage you. Pull him back up the bridge and onto the top of the temple and place your members between him and the machine

Demitrik does not hit overly hard but there is a problem here. Every so often he will get spooked and teleport to his machine. If you right click it and throw a wrench at it the machine will fly off do not do this until Demitrik has emoted. Otherwise the script can and will bug. This consumes the wrench or wrenches you carry. If the wrench is not thrown shortly after the emote Demitrik will be healed substantially (and sometimes not substantially!). During the fight a tool box will continuously spawn on top of the temple with a single wrench in it. One person can run this while the fight is going. While the machine is in flight put as much DPS as you can on the little rat!

Demitrik’s Bastion was one of the better designed and more fun dungeons for me. I liked the pace of it and really enjoyed the randomness of having little rats ride huge things. The whole zone is just neat to be in and enjoyable. With any luck the write up will shave time off your run and make it a bit easier! Good luck!
