Some people judge success by total page views. Others judge it by daily unique hits. Anyone who worries about such trivialities is missing the big picture! Everyone knows that the real measure of a blog’s triumph is blocked spam comments. Today I am proud to say that Epic Slant finally rolled passed the 5,000 blocked comments marker. Over 5,000 ads for nudity, male enhancement, dating and everything under the sun have crashed and burned without seeing the light of day.
The spammers have been getting more creative as of late. They even register fake accounts with the thought that that will allow them to get their comments in the door. All have been thwarted yet they still keep coming! I’ll never know why. I suppose there are blogs out there that they succeed on. Here is to another 5,000 blocked comments and more MMO commentary!
Consider discussing “Epic Slant’s First Realm Milestone!” (and I have no idea why anyone would discuss this story) on the Epic Slant Forum!

erm… grats! Now I’m got the Monty Python “spam” song in my head… You should go listen to it in honor of this momentous occasion
the thumbnail is classic!
See the 80s thread for a full version of that pic…Doozer class is the only way to go!
That’s fantastic. I hit my first real milestone yesterday, too: 100 posts. I am still only sitting at 21 actual spam comments over the past week since I migrated to WordPress, but it’ll come. Is it odd to actually want spam comments?
Congrats on the success!
Lol, nice. This post inspired me to go and check my own Akismet stats. In the last two months it’s been active, it’s caught 251 people. Epic Slant is a forerunner in the fight against male enhancement and prescription-free medications. Congrats
Out of curiosity, do you get a whole bunch of spammers leaving comments in Russian? Oddly enough, most of the ones I get tend to be compliments with links to the spam sites. Russians spam politely.
Absolutely yes, I get a lot of Russian spammers. They’re the ones that actually register for the site too.
Akismet has protected your site from 1,057,359 spam comments already….
I think the appropriate response here is: lol n00bcakes
Ouch! My pride!
I learned early not to compare myself to Psychochild.
And yes, the Russian spam politeness is rather interesting. I’m not sure if it’s just a cultural thing (which I’d expect of the Japanese before the Russians) or a sneaky tactic.
