Warhammer’s Keep Upgrade System

Warhammer Online patch 1.2.1 is drawing closer and Monday Mythic took the opportunity to share some of the highlights from the upcoming Keep Upgrade System. If you haven’t taken the time to read the specific details I really must suggest you do so. It sounds, to say the least, amazing.

In an attempt to promote defense Mythic has really stepped up and made owning a keep worthwhile. Guilds that can afford the cost of an upgraded keep will have access to healers and guild bankers in the RvR lakes. Beyond those two gems defenders who’re protecting an upgraded keep will receive greater rewards for their efforts.

Players are given a whole list of upgrades from which to choose and multiple ranks for each one. Given how much these items will cost I think it will build a personal attachment to a keep for the guilds involved. This, in turn, will make them more likely to fight for their home.

On the whole I’m excited about these changes and I think they’ll change the face of the RvR lakes. My only real concern is that I see no place for small guilds in this system. Given the amount of money required to support a keep I just don’t see anyone but large guilds managing to do it. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it might be neat if at some point smaller areas of control were added. We might even see small guilds “owning” a battle objective. That might make them worth defending.

At any rate this is another positive change for a game that continues to grow and mature. The system can be expanded as time progresses and new features become available. I look forward to seeing what those changes may be!

Totally agreed! I’m really psyched for the next patch (which can mean two things: the game right now is boring -OR- I just like new shinies… I’ll stick with the latter =P)

The game keeps getting better and better. These new keep upgrades sound very exciting. I can’t wait.
