Some folks do indeed give to charity just for the pat on the back. It isn't ideal, but honestly, I'd rather have them donate and get the pat on the back than not donate at all. However, I don't believe people should give to recieve praise, and I think sometimes people just donate to have someone say they did good. With that said there are many children that will never know what is like to be happy and have fun during christmas. I think sometimes as Americans we focus on problems abroad and not enough on our home turf.
