When I was reading through the documentation relating to Warhammer Online and the “living guild” system I was pretty excited about all the features that were available. One, in particular, struck me as interesting and is largely unused (at least on Monolith). That would be the alliance system.
Frequently I have a chuckle when one of our “top guilds” ignores everyone else around them while they siege keeps and RVR. Their “go it alone” attitude is almost laughable given the way the game appears to be designed. As a former high end leader I understand the xenophobia that comes with MMOs. If you wear the same guild tag you’re comrades. If you wear a different one you’re tolerated at best and enemies at worst. It is natural to feel that way but Mythic seems to be interested in breaking down that wall.
The irony here is that Warhammer was not designed to allow any single guild the ultimately kill. The vast majority of organizations will not attract enough players to take out a king solo; they’re going to need help. Despite that many still continue to ignore the alliance system. It is a shame really.
That said it shouldn’t be that big of a surprise that nobody has legitimately defeated a king yet. Mythic figured at least one server would have done so by now but that has not occurred. Could this be the reason? I postulate that yes, it probably has something to do with it. It is just a matter of time before someone (else) figures it out and gets their act together. It is a new game with a new set of rules folks, time to form alliances and get the war really moving!

The reason nobody has done it yet is because when you get to the opposing teams city and start kicking the door in the servers shit themselves and boot everyone out, or they remain, and it becomes a slide show of epic proportions – thus preventing anyone from going any further out of pure frustration. In my experience anyway….
